Can I get a free mobility
scooter or will my insurance/Medicare pay for it?
There is no way to get a
scooter for free technically. Insurance does cover them if you meet the
guidelines but you pay for insurance so technically you don’t get a scooter for free.
If your doctor writes a prescription for you to have a mobility scooter you
must meet the guidelines set by your insurance company in order to qualify for
the device. The insurance company has the final say in whether you meet the
standards to get a mobility device. To find out what the qualifications you
need to meet for your insurance to pay for the electric scooter call the customer care number on the
back of your insurance card and ask them to send you a link showing the
specific guidelines and qualifications you must meet in order to qualify for a
handicap scooter. They should be able to send you a link by email or send something to you in the mail. Remember do not ask them if the cover mobility scooters, that’s the wrong question. You need to ask them what are the qualifications that one must have in order to have insurance cover my mobility scooter.
How much do mobility scooters cost?
Mobility scooters can vary in price based on the type you
want. Your standard 3 wheel scooter can start out as low as $749 at All Star Medical and go up from
there. Typically when you have a 4 wheel scooter the price goes up. Other
features that make the price go up will include weight capacity, suspension,
the battery size, seat options and a few other miscellaneous items. Certain scooter models can go up in price like the folding mobility scooters which run between $1699
and $2300 or your all terrain outdoor scooters which can go up to $4500. Think about where you will use the device most and what features are most important to you now and will you need any of these other features in the near future. We see this at All Star Medical all the time, the customer is thinking about now only and not 6 months or 2 years down the road. All Star Medical really tries to help you make the best decision.
What is the best mobility scooter.
Choosing the best mobility scooter depends on a few factors.
The first thing you need to look at is what you need it for, inside or outside?
Do you need the mobility device to be portable? Would you prefer a 3 or 4 wheel
version? Once you figure out these factors, All Star Medical recommends some of the top brands
like Pride Mobility and Golden Technologies. The number one selling mobility
scooter for Golden Technologies is the Buzzaround XL. It has all the top
features and benefits you look for in a scooter and comes in a 3 or 4 wheel
option. One of the top mobility scooters by Pride Mobility would be the Elite Traveller
as it has a sleek design and fit all factors for a top scooter on the market.
What is the cheapest scooter?
If you are on a budget some of the most economical scooters on the market are made
by Vive health and carried at All Star Medical. They have a 3 and a 4 wheel option and start at $749. They are
portable and easy to transport and have a weight capacity of 265 lbs. You can
also look at the Go Go Ultra X and Buzz LT, these are both great scooters made
by great companies. All Star Medical offers free shipping on most all of their mobility scooters.
Should I buy a used mobility scooter?
When doing research for a used
mobility scooter you need to keep a couple things in mind before you purchase
it. Make sure you can drive the mobility scooter, if you can’t don’t buy it!
There is a lot of situations where the batteries have died and the scooter
won’t work. The problem with that is you have to buy the batteries just to see
if anything else is wrong with the scooter. We recommend buying mobility
scooters that are used from dealers like All Star medical or other companies
around the country. They have checked all the features and options to make sure
that the scooters are in a good working condition. You don’t want to be left
out in the cold with a used scooter and the handicap scooter still doesn’t work. Here at All Star Medical we have seen people put more money into a used scooter when they could have
bought a brand new one for less.
Should I rent a mobility scooter?
Here at All Star Medical we have lots of
customers rent mobility scooters first before they buy. They will take them on
a trip or to a destination and use them for a short period of time to make sure
they work and do what they need. They then purchase the device. We offer a try before you buy program here locally in the Nashville and Franklin Tennessee
area where if you rent a scooter from us we will give you a portion of the
rental back toward the purchase of a new mobility scooter. This way you can
make sure the scooter works for you and then feel comfortable with making the
purchase. To learn more about our mobility scooters click this link below. We
can ship anywhere in the continental United States and offer FREE shipping on
mobility scooters.
What is the weight capacity of a Mobility Scooter?
The weight capacity will vary on mobility scooters. You will see some that start out with a 250 lb weight capacity while the average weight capacity is 300 lbs. Once you go above 375 lbs the electric mobility scooter is no longer portable. There are some models that have a 400 lb weight capacity and they come apart but they are not what we would call portable here at All Star Medical. Pride Mobility and Golden Technologies both have Heavy Duty scooters that have a weight capacity of 500 lbs.
What kind of accessories can I get for my mobility scooter?
You can get anything from a cup holder to mirrors and some are even coming with a USB to charge your phone while you are one the go. Baskets that fit on the back of the seats are very common and can be easily added to almost all the models. If you are going to be carrying this on the outside of your vehicle you might want to consider a cover for your mobility device. I have even seen brackets that will attach an umbrella to your mobility scooter.
